The electric carmaker’s CEO, Elon Musk, announced the Model 3, the latest model in a line of electric cars that has already been sold to consumers.
The Model 3 is designed to compete with Tesla’s own Model S, the first to come to the US market in 2019.
Musk said he was keen to “make sure we are doing something right”.
The company has been under fire for its production of vehicles that are designed to produce more emissions than necessary, including the Model S. Tesla, which has been criticized for the production of the vehicles, has said it has been working to reduce its carbon footprint by 90 per cent since 2009.
Musk has also pledged to improve safety, the safety of its employees and consumers by 2020, by replacing the internal combustion engine with a new electric motor.
“We’re going to do this by 2020.
It’s going to be a revolutionary car,” Musk said at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday.
He said the Model X, the Model III and the Model Y were all built to be produced in a factory in the US.
